Smart Generation and Transmission Communication Backbone

Clients:
Confidential Client
Location:
New York

Project Summary: The Communication Backbone Program is part of the Client’s Smart Generation & Transmission 2x Initiative. The goal of the program is to establish a dedicated, redundant communication network that builds on the Client’s existing infrastructure, and is integrated into the long-term asset strategy, while leveraging available infrastructure from independent dark-fiber service providers to reduce dependency on commercial telecommunication providers. This Program consists of installation of new Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) on the Client’s transmission lines, new and upgraded digital microwave systems and leased dark fiber from third parties. The Communications Backbone Program will provide the client with a more reliable and resilient communications network with increased bandwidth while reducing reliance on existing telecommunications companies.

K&A Scope: K&A is responsible for Program Development and Management of this Program, which consists of the installation of nearly 700 miles of OPGW, procurement of dark fiber from third party telecommunication carriers, and the installation of microwave systems in Northern and Southeast New York. The K&A team is providing project engineers to manage and support 10 different OPGW Installation Projects in New York.
