FAQs

Frequently Asked
Questions

Do you handle both overhead and underground distribution system design?

Yes. K&A provides engineering design for both overhead and underground distribution systems. Our overhead work covers primary and secondary systems, feeder lines, and network reconfigurations. Our underground work covers cable system design for urban environments and locations where overhead infrastructure is impractical. Many programs require both, and our teams are structured to handle either or both within a single engagement.

What scale of distribution engineering projects do you typically support?

We work across a wide range of project scales, from single-circuit design assignments to territory-wide programs spanning thousands of miles. Our work for utilities has included everything from individual feeder upgrades to multi-year distribution line inspection and deficiency programs covering entire service territories. When a project calls for it, we also bring in power system studies support for load forecasting, system analysis, and capacity planning

What types of utilities and clients do you work with?

We serve electric utilities, including investor-owned utilities, cooperatives, and municipals, along with energy developers, contractors, and industrial clients in North America and internationally.

Do you provide distribution engineering support for grid hardening and resiliency programs?

Yes. K&A has delivered grid hardening programs for major US utilities, including storm hardening across distribution circuits in the Northeast and wildfire risk mitigation in California. Both program types demand technical accuracy and the ability to execute at scale under regulatory and schedule pressure, and our teams have a proven track record in both.

How does K&A ensure projects stay on schedule while maintaining quality and accountability in DER engagements?

Speed, quality, and schedule form the foundation of our performance criteria. These metrics are continuously measured and monitored through our KPI scorecard system to ensure projects are delivered on time and meet our high-quality standards.

How does K&A use KPI tracking to ensure accountability and continuous improvement?

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) provide measurable insights into operational and business performance over time. By tracking critical metrics, KPIs help identify inefficiencies, measure progress, and support informed strategic decision-making. A robust KPI tracking system enables continuous improvement, greater accountability, and better business outcomes, while helping prevent missed opportunities and unrealized revenue potential.

Can you support DER integration as part of a distribution engineering project?

Yes. Distribution systems increasingly need to account for DER impacts on capacity, protection, and power flow. Our distribution engineering work connects directly with our DER interconnection services, where projects require it.

Dream Big.
We make it possible.
