K&A has completed over 30,000 DER interconnection studies for utility clients across the United States with 400+ solar sites. Our engineers have performed CESIR studies, System Impact Studies, and Transmission Planning studies for major Northeast and Midwest U.S. utilities, delivering consistently to ISONE, MPUC, and utility-specific interconnection standards
That depth means your project benefits from pre-validated study templates, software fluency across CYME, PSS/E, WinPVL, PSCAD, and ASPEN, and a team that already knows what each interconnection queue expects at every stage of the interconnection services process.
From pre-application screening through energization, our engineers manage the full spectrum of DER integration, including system-impact studies, microgrid analysis, and interconnection services, so your project connects to the grid on schedule and in compliance.

K&A’s PSSP team has successfully delivered more than 50 GW of solar and battery energy storage projects. In the U.S. alone, approximately 800 GW of solar capacity has been installed since 2019, according to IRENA, of which K&A supported 6.16% through its engineering services.
The team is setting new benchmarks for operational excellence across the utility sector. Whether you are planning new interconnections, modernizing your system, or improving reliability, K&A is your trusted partner in power system studies.

We perform studies on behalf of utilities and ISOs, covering both behind-the-meter and front-of-the-meter DER assets. Project scale ranges from a few KWs to hundreds of MW, interconnecting across standard grid voltages from 4 kV to 345 kV.
Our DER interconnection scope includes feasibility studies, system impact studies, cost estimation, and facility studies, with construction and technical support available through subsequent project phases as required
Yes. Our BESS engineering practice spans from distribution-scale storage (<=200 MW) to large transmission-level interconnections (200 MW). We have delivered BESS substation EPC projects at 34.5 kV, 100 kV, and 345 kV, and our study engineers carry hands-on lessons from those builds, fault duty on PCS switchgear, auxiliary power sequencing, and grounding adequacy, directly into interconnection studies.
Studies are generally conducted using industry-standard tools, including CYME, Synergi, Aspen OneLiner, PSCAD, PSSCAPE, PSLF, PowerWorld, and PSSE.
We also use EasyPower, SKM, ETAP and other industry standard tools as needed along with utility ADMS, DERMS, SCADA, EMS, GIS and AMI platforms. The software and platform are subject to the utility’s practice and preference.
Yes, this is where K&A is strongest. We have built processes, templates, and tools to support cluster and concurrent studies, increasing overall delivery speed.
Our PMO model is built specifically for programs like this: standardized study procedures, embedded project managers, and construction subcontractor coordination.
The core capability of K&A is maintaining resource stability while adapting to changing workloads across clients. Engineers who have been trained on your account can be smoothly transitioned to support other client engagements.
